The Ministry of Railways has announced plans to manufacture Amrit Bharat Express 3.0 trainsets, building on the experience of the earlier Amrit Bharat 1.0 and 2.0 versions. Introduced in 2023, the Amrit Bharat trains are designed to provide affordable yet quality travel for passengers from lower and lower-middle income groups.

Currently, eight Amrit Bharat Express trains operate across India, connecting routes such as Darbhanga–Anand Vihar Terminal, Malda Town–SMVT Bengaluru, Mumbai LTT–Saharsa, Rajendra Nagar Terminal–New Delhi, Darbhanga–Gomti Nagar, Malda Town–Gomti Nagar, Bapudham Motihari–Anand Vihar Terminal, and Sitamarhi–Delhi.

The Amrit Bharat 3.0 will be developed by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai and will feature a combination of Air-Conditioned (AC) and Non-Air-Conditioned (Non-AC) coaches. “ICF is planning to develop Mixed Amrit Bharat 3.0 trains, offering a blend of AC and non-AC coaches for balanced comfort and affordability,” said U Subba Rao, General Manager of ICF, during Independence Day celebrations.

The Amrit Bharat 2.0 introduced 12 major upgrades, including semi-automatic couplers, modular toilets, reinforced partitions, emergency talk-back features, EP-assisted brake systems, redesigned seats and berths, a new pantry car layout, continuous lighting similar to Vande Bharat, fire detection systems, improved gangways, external emergency lighting, and charging sockets with mobile holders.

The non-AC Amrit Bharat trains typically consist of 11 General Class coaches, 8 Sleeper Class coaches, 1 Pantry Car, and 2 Second-Class-cum-Luggage-cum-Guard vans with disabled-friendly compartments. The railways has planned production of 100 Amrit Bharat trains in total.
