Steel Authority of India (SAIL), a Maharatna company and India’s leading public sector steel producer, has supplied nearly 15,000 metric tonne of steel for the 51-km Bairabi–Sairang railway project in Mizoram. The project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13, 2025.

Of the total supply, about 10,000 metric tons comprised high-grade R-260 prime rails manufactured at SAIL’s flagship Bhilai Steel Plant. The remaining 5,000 metric tons included plates, TMT bars, and structural steel sourced from its Bokaro, Rourkela, Bhilai, Durgapur, and Burnpur plants.

The Bairabi–Sairang project underscores India’s focus on enhancing connectivity across the Northeast and highlights SAIL’s role as a dependable partner in nation-building. By providing high-quality steel for critical infrastructure, SAIL continues to contribute to projects of national importance.

Beyond this milestone, SAIL has consistently supported the region’s development through supplies for railways, power, hydroelectric projects, and border connectivity. Its steel has powered landmark initiatives such as the Chenab Railway Bridge, Jiribam–Tupul–Imphal Broad Gauge Project, Atal Tunnel, Bandra–Worli Sea Link, and the Dhola Sadiya and Bogibeel bridges.
