Sevoke-Rangpo railway line cost may exceed Rs 125 billion

The estimated cost of constructing the Sevoke-Rangpo railway line is anticipated to surpass Rs 125 billion, marking a three-fold rise from the estimate made in 2020 and over ten times the projected expenditure outlined in the 2008-09 budget.

B K Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director, Ircon International, stated that there has been an increase in the project's cost.

The revised estimate is currently undergoing the sanctioning process, and it will amount to Rs 125 billion.

Ircon International is a government undertaking of India.

The 44.96km-long railway line was initially included in the 2008-09 budget with a project estimate of Rs 13.39 billion.

Significant construction activities commenced only in 2018 due to delays in obtaining environmental clearance.
