Siemens Wins Rs 773 Cr Deal for Nagpur Metro Phase 2

Siemens Limited has secured two high-value contracts from Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha-Metro) for providing signalling and telecommunications solutions for Phase 2 of the Nagpur Metro Rail Project. Valued at Rs 773 crore in total, the contracts cover design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of state-of-the-art train control and communication technologies.

The 42-month contract involves the deployment of Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling systems and advanced telecommunications infrastructure across the extended metro network. Siemens will also enhance the existing systems implemented in Phase 1 as part of the contract’s augmentation scope.

Phase 2 of the Nagpur Metro will add 43.8 km to the current network by extending the two main lines—Orange and Aqua—towards the city’s northern, southern, eastern, and western peripheries. The extensions include:
Orange Line: Khapri – MIDC ESR (18.5 km)
Orange Line: Automotive Square – Kanhan River (13 km)
Aqua Line: Prajapati Nagar – Transport Nagar (5.6 km)
Aqua Line: Lokmanya Nagar – Hingna (6.7 km)

Rajeev Joisar, Head of Siemens Mobility India, commented, “This project will contribute significantly to the sustainable urban development of Nagpur. It demonstrates Siemens’ capability to deliver integrated mobility technologies that combine automation, digitisation, and energy efficiency to shape the future of transport in Indian cities.”

The project reinforces Maha-Metro’s focus on building smart, sustainable urban infrastructure. The advanced CBTC system enables high-frequency and driverless train operations, enhancing commuter safety and operational efficiency. With Siemens’ global expertise and on-ground experience, the Nagpur Metro Phase 2 is expected to achieve world-class standards in urban mobility.
