Tata AutoComp Enters Rail Sector With Global Partnerships

Tata AutoComp Systems Ltd, a leading Indian automotive components manufacturer, is expanding beyond its traditional automotive business to capitalise on opportunities emerging from the modernisation of Indian Railways, according to Vice-Chairman Arvind Goel.

Speaking on Monday, Goel said the company views the railway sector as a key strategic focus area, driven by the government’s push to enhance rail infrastructure, passenger comfort and travel efficiency.

“India’s rail network is undergoing rapid modernisation, and the government’s emphasis on improving infrastructure and travel convenience makes this the right time to enter the segment,” he noted.

To strengthen its entry into the sector, Tata AutoComp has forged partnerships with global technology leaders such as Skoda, Compin Fainsa, and Air International Thermal Systems. These collaborations aim to bring world-class rail technologies and products to India, combining global expertise with local manufacturing capabilities.

Goel cited the success of Vande Bharat trains as an example of the government’s investment in high-speed, high-quality and passenger-centric train systems. “Diversifying beyond automotive, the railway sector is a natural choice for Tata AutoComp,” he added.

Tata AutoComp already supplies components for Vande Bharat trains and plans to showcase its propulsion systems, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) units, seating, and lightweight sustainable rail solutions at the International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE) 2025, scheduled at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, from 15–17 October.

The company said its partnerships align with its mission to localise advanced global technologies, making them cost-competitive and scalable for India’s rail sector. Through its joint ventures, Tata AutoComp will enable end-to-end manufacturing and assembly of key railway components within the country, supporting the broader ‘Make in India’ initiative.

With the railways undergoing one of its biggest transformation phases, Tata AutoComp’s entry marks a significant diversification move — one that leverages its engineering expertise to contribute to India’s sustainable transport and infrastructure growth.
