Third Railway Line Between Kazipet and Vijayawada Ready for Trials
The line forms part of the Grand Trunk railway route connecting New Delhi and Chennai. The existing two lines on the north-south corridor handle substantial passenger and freight traffic, and the third track is intended to provide greater operational flexibility and ease congestion.
Work on the project began about a decade ago to improve train movement and reduce pressure on the busy route. The additional infrastructure is expected to support smoother operations for passenger services travelling through Kazipet and Mahabubabad, as well as freight trains using the corridor.
Railway officials said the trial runs had been completed successfully and that their results had been communicated to the Railway Board. Regular services on the third line will begin after the Board grants the necessary clearance. Until that approval is received, the track will remain under operational assessment.
The completion of the Kazipet-Mahabubabad section allows railway authorities to evaluate the line under running conditions before opening it for routine traffic. The project is part of efforts to expand capacity on one of the country’s major rail corridors, where additional track infrastructure can help improve scheduling and reduce delays.
