Titagarh Rail Systems And BHEL Launch Vande Bharat Sleeper Line

Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL), in collaboration with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), has inaugurated the dedicated production line for Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains at its advanced facility in Uttarpara, Kolkata, West Bengal. Senior leaders from TRSL and BHEL, including Umesh Chowdhary, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, TRSL, and Bani Varma, Director, BHEL, officiated the event.

The production line follows a major Indian Railways contract awarded to the TRSL-BHEL consortium for the design and manufacture of 80 Vande Bharat Sleeper train sets. Valued at approximately Rs 240 billion, including 35 years of maintenance, the project is aligned with the Make in India and Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiatives.

The sleeper variant will be India’s first long-distance, semi high-speed train offering indigenous design, advanced safety features, and energy-efficient operations. The Uttarpara facility, equipped with Industry 4.0 technologies, is scaling its coach production capacity from 300 to 850 units annually to meet demand. The first prototype is expected to roll out next year, representing a significant leap in India’s rail manufacturing capabilities and the vision for future-ready, self-reliant mobility.
