Translite Scaffolding Powers Landmark Rail Flyover Launch in Kalamboli

In a significant milestone for rail infrastructure in India, Translite Scaffolding has enabled the successful launch of the longest open-web steel girder rail flyover in Maharashtra, executed under the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India. (DFCCIL) by TATA Projects. The project is part of the JNPT–Nilje freight corridor and involved the nation’s first radial-slew launch across operational railway lines.

While Translite was not responsible for the fabrication or erection of the primary girder, its high-precision scaffolding and launch systems were critical to the success of the complex operation. The company designed and supplied custom-engineered launching beams, developed to withstand high loads while maintaining optimised camber control and perfect longitudinal alignment. Specialised trussel heads were also precision-machined to accommodate differential load conditions during incremental launching and to reduce point stresses and structural deflection.

Spanning approximately 110 to 110.5 metres and weighing nearly 1,650 tonne, the girder was launched across a 34-metre shift using the radial-slew technique, a first-of-its-kind execution in India. The entire operation was conducted over four traffic blocks during midnight hours, coordinated with Central Railway authorities.

Translite’s scope extended beyond fabrication. The company provided on-site technical assistance, live alignment checks, and support during staging and load transfer, ensuring precision throughout the launch process. All support systems were delivered within a fast-track manufacturing schedule of just 45 days. Third-party inspections confirmed zero deviations during load transfer and launch—underscoring the quality and reliability of Translite’s engineering.

A Senior Project Manager at TATA Projects stated, “Translite’s systems demonstrated outstanding precision and reliability, significantly de-risking the project’s heavy launch operations.”

This project is expected to significantly enhance cargo throughput and connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Translite’s contribution reinforces its position as a leading provider of customised scaffolding, formwork, and heavy-duty launch systems for complex infrastructure projects nationwide. With a design-first approach, ISO-certified facilities, and proven expertise across metro, industrial, and highway structures, Translite continues to deliver solutions that ensure safety, efficiency, and engineering excellence at scale.
