Tripura Rail Line Fully Electrified Under Rs 460 Million Project

Tripura State Electricity Corporation has completed 100 per cent electrification of a 271-kilometre railway line, marking a significant step in integrating the state’s network with the national railway grid for electric trains. The Rs 460 million project, launched in 2022, forms part of the Northeast Frontier Railway’s broader strategy to introduce electric locomotive-powered services from Tripura.
Following the completion of the project, the first goods train trial run with an electric locomotive was successfully conducted between Badarpur in Assam and Jirania in Tripura. Subsequently, passenger train trial runs using electric engines were also carried out between Agartala and Arunachal Junction station in Assam. The initiative is expected to significantly improve energy efficiency, reduce operating costs, and strengthen railway connectivity in the North-East.
