The Rs 890 million redevelopment of Tumkur Railway Station in Karnataka has taken a major step forward with its design assignment awarded to KIIFCON, the consulting arm of the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).
KIIFCON has been tasked with designing the new station building, a four-storey multi-level parking facility and Type-II residential quarters for officers. “After various phases of clearance, the station building’s design is currently awaiting final railways’ approval,” said Jithin Jose, Deputy General Manager at KIIFCON.
The design brief given by the railways through the RITES Aryan Joint Venture emphasised standard station elements. KIIFCON’s concept incorporates three red domes on the station building as a thematic nod to the nearby Sri Siddaganga Mutt, reflecting local heritage.
The new facility will span approximately 4,764 sq m (68 m × 14 m) and include booking counters, general and upper-class waiting halls, a ladies’ lounge, VIP lounge, lifts and EV-charging stations. The parking structure is connected via a first-floor passage.
KIIFCON, which was established in 2022, marks its first project outside Kerala with this undertaking.
