Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah welcomed the Union Cabinet approval for the extension of Ahmedabad Metro Phase-2 and congratulated residents of the region on the decision. He said the new metro line from GIFT City to Shahpur will be built at a cost of Rs 10.67 billion (bn) and will provide affordable, convenient and high speed connectivity to the people of the region. He added the project will give new momentum to educational, corporate and commercial activities.

The Union Cabinet approved four multi tracking railway projects worth Rs 90.72 bn, including the doubling of the Gondia–Jabalpur line and the construction of third and fourth lines from Pundrak to Kiul and from Gamharia to Chandil. The minister said the measures are expected to accelerate industrial and tourism activities in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bihar. The projects form part of a broader effort to strengthen connectivity and freight capacity.

The cabinet approved a new integrated terminal building at Srinagar Airport to be developed at a cost of Rs 16.67 bn, with multi level car parking spread over 71,500 square metres and equipped with enhanced security systems. The minister said the terminal is expected to boost employment and trade in Kashmir and to improve passenger experience. Authorities indicated the development will support regional economic recovery and logistics.

The cabinet also authorised an increase in PowerGrid's investment limit to Rs 75.00 bn to accelerate the transition to abundant renewable energy and to enhance the company's capacity to invest in grid expansion. The minister framed the decision as aligned with the prime minister's vision for renewable energy and said it will strengthen the infrastructure required to meet growing demand. Officials said the approvals together reflect a coordinated push to improve urban transit, aviation and rail infrastructure.
