The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, inaugurated a 1 MW Green Hydrogen Power Plant at the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla. Hailing it as a significant milestone, the Minister called it a vital step towards achieving the Prime Minister’s 2030 vision under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

Described as a landmark in India’s green transformation journey, the plant underscores the country’s commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions. It forms part of a larger 10 MW green hydrogen project, the foundation stone for which was laid by the Prime Minister in Bhuj on 26 May 2025.

The 1 MW module was commissioned in just four months and is capable of producing around 140 metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually. This achievement sets a new benchmark for rapid implementation in India’s green hydrogen ecosystem and supports the decarbonisation of maritime operations under Maritime India Vision 2030.

Shri Sonowal praised DPA’s proactive green efforts, including India’s first all-electric, Make-in-India Green Tug, and highlighted the fully Aatma-Nirbhar hydrogen infrastructure built entirely by Indian engineers. He encouraged other ports across India to follow suit by adopting sustainable and innovative technologies.

Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Shri Shantanu Thakur, also commended the development, calling it a proud moment for Gujarat and the nation. He noted that the project exemplifies India’s leadership in clean energy, innovation, and self-reliance.

The Minister acknowledged the engineering excellence of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and congratulated the Deendayal Port Authority team for their swift and precise execution of the complex project.

As India advances towards a cleaner maritime future, DPA continues to lead in sustainable innovation, aligning closely with national objectives and global climate goals.
