The Director General of Shipping, Shyam Jagannathan, announced on Wednesday that the National Action Plan for Green Shipping is championing eco-friendly practices and providing incentives for low-emission ships. This initiative aims to position India's maritime sector for a prosperous and environmentally responsible future. Jagannathan made these remarks during his address at the 13th edition of South Asia's largest maritime exhibition and conference, INMEX SMM India 2023.

Speaking at the event, Jagannathan also outlined the maritime sector's broader vision, which includes ambitious goals such as quadrupling port capacity, establishing clean energy fuel hubs, and fostering growth in cruise tourism, among other strategic objectives.

The three-day conference, held in collaboration with German exhibition organizer Hamburg Messe und Congress, covers a range of critical industry topics, including green shipping and digitalization, among others. Jagannathan emphasized the importance of the National Action Plan for Green Shipping in advancing environmentally friendly practices and offering incentives to encourage the adoption of low-emission ships. This initiative is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of India's maritime sector, aligning it with global sustainability goals.
