Adani Ports Signs IMEC Pact With Port Of Marseille Fos
Marseille Fos strengthens the western European gateway of the 6,000-km multimodal corridor and extends the route deeper into the region. The French port handles 74 mn t of cargo annually and nearly 10,000 vessel calls each year, bringing one of Europe’s largest integrated multimodal ecosystems into the partnership. The capacity addition of 70 mn t is intended to support higher routing of India–EU trade flows.
On the eastern gateway, APSEZ’s ports at Mundra and Hazira serve as a multimodal logistics hub linking South Asia to West Asia and complement the European leg. The partnership includes plans to promote IMEC as a sustainable and secure Eurasian trade alternative through joint campaigns, trade fairs and business-to-business engagements. It also focuses on technical exchanges in port digitalisation, cybersecurity, alternative fuels, shore power supply and low-carbon bunkering and proposes a Mundra–Marseille Fos Green Maritime Corridor.
APSEZ’s whole-time director and chief executive said the agreement connects the final European leg of the corridor and will accelerate the exchange of information and materials among participating nations. The Marseille Fos chief executive said the corridor is entering a decisive phase with both ports positioned at critical endpoints.
APSEZ operates 15 ports and terminals across India with a cargo handling capacity of 633 mn t per annum and an approximately 28 per cent share of India’s total port volumes. The group targets one billion (bn) tonnes throughput by 2030 and views the pact as a step to strengthen long-term supply chain resilience between India and Europe. The partnership is intended to institutionalise cooperation along IMEC and support the corridor’s growth.
