Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) and the Mumbai Port Sustainability Foundation (MPSF) to establish a green fuel ecosystem at Mumbai Port. This partnership is a key step in supporting India’s transition to cleaner energy solutions, aiming to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and align with the country’s climate change goals.

The agreement was signed in the presence of BPCL Chairman and Managing Director G. Krishnakumar, BPCL Business Head Rahul Tandon, and Mumbai Port Authority Chairperson Rajiv Jalota. The initiative will promote green energy adoption at Mumbai Port by introducing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and converting diesel-powered vessels to cleaner fuels, further reducing the port’s carbon footprint.

“This MoU aligns with BPCL’s commitment to sustainability and our goal of achieving net-zero emissions for Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 2040,” said Krishnakumar. “By enabling sustainable energy solutions like LNG and EV for the maritime sector, we are demonstrating our social responsibility and contributing to sustainable growth.”

The agreement also focuses on waste management, with BPCL and MPSF collaborating on systems for the collection, handling, and storage of recyclable and non-recyclable solid waste at Mumbai Port, fostering a cleaner and more sustainable environment. (ET)
