BW LPG to Sell Two VLGCs to Indian JV
BW LPG India, which currently operates India’s largest VLGC fleet, will expand its fleet to eight ships with the acquisition of these two vessels. This deal also supports the fleet renewal strategy as both ships were built in 2015, aligning with the growing demand for LPG in India.
Kristian Sørensen, CEO of BW LPG, emphasized the importance of this acquisition, saying, “With BW Pampero and BW Chinook, we add modern quality tonnage and more capacity to our Indian-flagged fleet. We see tremendous potential in the country and are proud to contribute to the continued growth of the Indian LPG market.” He also expressed gratitude to their partners, Mass Capital and Global United Shipping, for their collaboration in this fleet renewal effort.
Founded in 2017, BW LPG India is jointly owned by BW LPG (52%) and Maas Capital (42%). The fleet is fully Indian-flagged and operated, contributing significantly to India’s energy needs. With this acquisition, BW LPG India will manage approximately 20% of the country’s LPG imports, in line with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative aimed at self-reliance.
BW LPG stated that this deal is part of its broader strategy to optimize its fleet in expanding markets while contributing to India's energy transition.
