DMRC, DPA and BEML Join Hands for Automated Cargo Evacuation System

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has expanded its consultancy operations into the port infrastructure sector by partnering with the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Umeandus Technology Private Limited, and BEML Limited for the joint development of a Real-Time Automated Cargo Evacuation System (e-FTS) at Deendayal Port, Kandla, Gujarat.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed recently, outlines the design and implementation of an automated cargo movement and monitoring system to improve handling efficiency and minimise manual intervention within the port area.

The e-FTS will be developed as a pilot project and later scaled up. Under the agreement, DMRC will oversee operations and maintenance (O&M) activities for a 25-year period once the system becomes operational.

An integrated freight and logistics management platform, the e-FTS employs blockchain for secure data exchange, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for process optimisation, and Internet of Things (IoT) for continuous cargo and equipment tracking.

The initiative aims to digitise port logistics by replacing manual and paper-based systems, reducing dwell time, enhancing transparency, and improving the utilisation of port assets—marking a major step towards smart and sustainable port operations.
