Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MDL) is set to acquire a controlling stake in Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC), Sri Lanka’s largest and oldest shipyard, for $52.96 million. Once completed, the deal will make CDPLC a subsidiary of MDL and significantly enhance India’s shipbuilding capacity in the Indian Ocean region. Located near some of the busiest global shipping lanes, the Colombo yard holds immense strategic value. The acquisition not only strengthens MDL’s production footprint but also serves as a critical geopolitical move amid growing regional competition. Capt.
