GAIL Signs Long-Term Charter For LNG Carrier
The charter represents a key milestone under the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 and is expected to strengthen India’s maritime infrastructure and energy supply chain capabilities. GAIL indicated that the arrangement will support long-term LNG supply security and logistics integration. The transaction complements the company’s efforts to expand its shipping fleet and ensure uninterrupted LNG availability to meet growing domestic demand.
GAIL owns and operates a network of over 18,001 kilometres of natural gas pipelines across the country and maintains a diversified presence across the natural gas value chain, including trading, transmission, liquefied petroleum gas production and petrochemicals. In the liquefied natural gas segment, GAIL has a substantially large and diversified LNG portfolio intended to secure long-term supplies and position the company among the top global LNG portfolio marketers. As part of its logistics integration strategy, the company has built the largest LNG fleet in the country to bolster maritime capabilities.
Alpha Gas provides in-house LNG ship management services such as technical management, commercial operations, crewing, procurement and newbuilding supervision while emphasising health, safety, quality and environmental performance. The owner pursues ship ownership as a central component of its growth strategy and continues an active newbuilding and acquisition programme focused on high-technology vessels with energy efficiency innovations. Both parties view the charter as supporting cleaner energy delivery and fostering long-term value for stakeholders.
