As part of its commitment to developing the cruise industry, the government launched the Cruise Bharat Mission in 2024. This initiative is designed to position India as a global cruise destination, with Goa playing a pivotal role in integrated cruise circuits.
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal emphasised the broad economic benefits of these developments. The upgraded infrastructure is expected to create jobs in transportation, hospitality, retail, and tourism, while driving revenue growth for local businesses. Enhanced inland waterway services, such as ferry and Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) facilities, will further strengthen connectivity and ease cargo movement.
This initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision under the Sagarmala Scheme to modernise India’s coastal infrastructure and elevate Goa’s status as a key maritime hub.
