The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Director General Paramesh Sivamani inaugurated a new dedicated jetty at Vizhinjam Harbour, Kerala, on 7 June 2025. The 76.7-metre state-of-the-art berth will enhance the ICG’s operational efficiency by enabling quicker deployment and turnaround of its vessels for missions including coastal surveillance, search and rescue, anti-smuggling operations, and fisheries protection.

Strategically situated just 10 nautical miles from key international shipping lanes and next to the Vizhinjam International Transshipment Deepwater Port, the new facility is poised to play a crucial role in securing India's southwestern maritime border.

DG Sivamani emphasised the strategic significance of the new jetty, describing it as a major advancement in strengthening India's coastal security infrastructure and enhancing rapid response capabilities along the Kerala coastline.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Inspector General Bhisham Sharma, Commander of ICG Region (West), along with senior representatives from Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd, the Government of Kerala, the Kerala Maritime Board, State Police, Port Authorities, the Indian Army, Adani Ports Pvt. Ltd., and the Fisheries Department.
