Indian Naval Ship Trikand (INS Trikand), a frontline guided missile frigate of the Indian Navy, concluded a port call at Maputo, Mozambique on 29 March 2026. The visit formed part of scheduled operational engagements and regional cooperation activities. The port call was intended to strengthen maritime ties and facilitate professional exchanges. The port visit also allowed for logistics and replenishment planning and informal engagements between crews to build professional rapport.

During the visit, joint training and professional engagements were conducted to enhance interoperability with the Mozambique Navy. Personnel from the Mozambique Navy embarked onboard to participate in training and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance activities. On departure INS Trikand proceeded for its planned operational deployment after completing these combined exercises. Combined activities focused on tactical coordination, navigation and communications procedures to align operational practices.

HADR relief material from India was handed over in the presence of Dr Ussene Hilario Isse, Health Minister of the Republic of Mozambique, and Shri Robert Shetkintong, High Commissioner of India to Mozambique, alongside senior government and military functionaries. A medical camp was organised at the Mozambique Navy Hospital to deliver aid and medical services to personnel and civilians. The commanding officer, Captain Sachin Kulkarni, met the High Commissioner to discuss ongoing bilateral cooperation. The assistance activities were coordinated with local authorities to ensure effective distribution and follow up medical support.

The port call underscored India’s vision of Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Region (MAHASAGAR) and reiterated the Indian Navy’s commitment to remain the preferred security partner and first responder in the Indian Ocean region. The engagements were described as contributing to maritime security, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness. Continued cooperation was presented as central to regional stability and mutual growth. Officials highlighted that such interactions support collective capabilities to respond to emergencies and uphold safe maritime commerce.
