Indian Naval Ship Trikand (INS Trikand), a stealth frigate of the Indian Navy (IN), departed Port Victoria in Seychelles after completing a port call during which the ship handed over critical spares and essential stores to the Government of Seychelles. The commanding officer of INS Trikand called on senior government functionaries and the High Commissioner of India to Seychelles to discuss maritime cooperation and logistical support. The visit formed part of routine diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening regional ties and support arrangements.

INS Trikand participated in the maiden tri services edition of Exercise Lamitiye two thousand and twenty six alongside the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force, together with the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF). The exercise marked IN's first participation in Lamitiye and included a harbour phase with visit, board, search and seizure training and joint boarding drills. The subsequent sea phase saw coordinated operations to refine procedures and interoperability among the services.

During the sea phase INS Trikand exercised with SCGS Le Vigilant and undertook joint boarding operations at sea by teams comprising IN Marine Commandos and Special Forces of the SDF. The conduct of landing operations on Praslin Island involved Army troops from India and forces from Seychelles and was overseen by senior SDF officers who embarked aboard INS Trikand to witness the activity. The drills were designed to enhance coordination in maritime law enforcement, search and rescue and amphibious interoperability under varied operational scenarios.

Officials noted that Exercise Lamitiye provided a platform to enhance interoperability and reinforce maritime cooperation between India and Seychelles while reflecting historic ties. The engagement aligns with the vision of Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Region (MAHASAGAR) and underscores IN's commitment to remain the preferred security partner and first responder in the Indian Ocean Region. The port call and exercise activities are intended to consolidate practical links and support shared security objectives.
