In a groundbreaking move towards driving industrialization through port development, Syama Prasad Mookherjee Port, Kolkata, announced a monumental deal worth ?3.6 billion (Rs 36,000 crore) with various companies during the third edition of the Global Maritime India Summit 2023, held in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Rathendra Raman, Chairperson of SMP, Kolkata, played a pivotal role in this historic agreement by signing 21 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with a diverse array of government agencies and private partners. These MoUs encompass vital areas such as port connectivity, capacity enhancement, and green energy projects, all of which align with the Vision 2047 initiative.

Notable agreements include a partnership with NTPC for the development of green energy and ammonia projects, as well as collaboration with GRSE for the supply of environmentally friendly marine vessels. The event also witnessed the inauguration of the first Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project for the Kolkata Dock System at SMP, named "Rejuvenation of KPD - Dock 1 (West)," by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
