PM Modi, Wong Inaugurate Phase 2 of JNPort PSA Terminal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, on Thursday virtually inaugurated the second phase of the JNPort PSA Terminal (BMCT), boosting the terminal’s total container handling capacity to 4.8 million TEUs.
Located at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), India’s premier container gateway, the port now has five major dedicated container terminals operated by leading global players, supported by a deep draft of over 15 metres. This enables the port to handle vessels carrying up to 18,000 TEUs, making it one of the most capable container ports in the region.
The event was attended by Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shantanu Thakur, PSA India Managing Director Gobu Selliaya, and JNPA Chairman Unmesh Sharad Wagh.
JNPA plays a critical role in India's maritime logistics, handling 54 per cent of all containerised cargo across the country’s major ports. The Phase 2 expansion is expected to significantly enhance throughput, efficiency, and connectivity, positioning India as a stronger player in global container trade.
