According to a recent analysis, the shipping industry's 2050 decarbonisation goal is in jeopardy because zero-emission fuels are not expected to make up 5% of fuel used in international shipping by 2030.

The evaluation, which was unveiled at the annual summit of the Global Maritime Forum in Athens, indicates that the amount of fuel required by 2030 would only be partially met by the scalable zero-emissions fuel (SZEF) production currently under way.

Additionally, there is a lag in the supply of zero-emission vessels. 24 ships?mostly made of methanol?could run on SZEF by the end of 2022, and another 144 were on order.
