Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Partners to Redevelop Nimtala Ghat

Kolkata: Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday with PS Group Realty Private Limited to redevelop and beautify Nimtala Ghat as part of PS Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The agreement was formalised at SMPK’s Head Office at 15, Strand Road, in the presence of SMPK chairman Rathendra Raman, deputy chairman Samrat Rahi, PS Group directors Saurav Dugar, Gaurav Dugar, Arun Sancheti, and senior SMPK officials.
Under the MoU, PS Group will undertake the full redevelopment and permitted construction of Nimtala Immersion Ghat, including landscaping and beautification, with complete support from SMPK. The port authority will provide free access, electricity, water, security, and assist with statutory clearances and drainage arrangements. Upon completion, the redeveloped ghat will be handed over to SMPK for long-term maintenance.
Chairman Raman highlighted that the initiative demonstrates a commitment to sustainable urban development and cultural preservation. He emphasised the ghat’s spiritual and social significance for locals and noted that its revitalisation will enhance the riverfront and strengthen civic pride.
PS Group director Saurav Dugar said the group is honoured to contribute to rejuvenating this sacred site, aiming to improve hygiene and public environment. This partnership exemplifies public-private collaboration in preserving urban heritage and reimagining public spaces.
