Vadhavan Port Set to Position Maharashtra as Trade Powerhouse
At the Maharashtra Maritime Summit 2025, CM Devendra Fadnavis highlighted the transformative potential of the Vadhavan Port, calling it a key pillar in India’s ambition to become a global maritime superpower. As part of India’s Maritime Vision 2030 and 2047, the state is creating its own roadmap to enhance port development and logistics.
Fadnavis underscored Maharashtra’s historic role in maritime trade, with Mumbai and Konkan ports having global significance for centuries. He noted that the upcoming Vadhavan Port will elevate Maharashtra’s port capabilities, making it one of the world’s top 10 ports and a catalyst for economic growth.
An offshore airport is also planned near the port to boost multimodal connectivity. Under the Sagarmala project, the Centre is investing heavily in coastal infrastructure. Water transport is a key focus, given its low logistics cost—only 10 paise per tonne-kilometre compared to Rs 1 for road.
Minister Nitesh Rane and senior officials were present at the summit, which aimed to position Maharashtra as a leader in port-led growth.
