BEML Secures Rs 5.9 bn Defence Order for Trawl Assemblies

BEML Limited has been awarded a contract by the Ministry of Defence for the supply of trawl assemblies valued at Rs five point nine billion (Rs 5.9 bn). The agreement for the systems destined for integration with T-72 and T-90 tanks was formalised and exchanged between senior officials of the Ministry and BEML in New Delhi. The procurement is intended to equip mechanised forces with dedicated mine-clearing capability developed domestically.

The trawl assemblies have been indigenously designed and developed in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), specifically its R&D Engineers unit in Pune. The systems incorporate multi-layered mine-clearing mechanisms that create clear lanes for armoured columns, thereby improving mobility and survivability on contested routes. The announcement emphasised the reduced dependence on foreign imports and alignment with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.

BEML’s chairman and managing director said the order reflected continued trust in the company’s capabilities and execution excellence and noted that collaboration with DRDO underlined the strength of India’s defence research ecosystem. The company described the solution as technologically advanced and cost effective, and it suggested the order would bolster India’s standing in the global anti-mine equipment market. The release framed the systems as an operational multiplier for combat engineering formations.

BEML Limited, a Schedule A company under the Ministry of Defence, operates across three verticals: Defence and Aerospace, Mining and Construction, and Rail and Metro. The firm noted state-of-the-art manufacturing sites in Bengaluru, Kolar Gold Fields, Mysore and Palakkad, backed by a nationwide sales and service network and robust research and development infrastructure. With a legacy of six decades, BEML presents itself as a committed manufacturer of earthmoving, transportation and construction equipment supporting core national sectors.
