Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh co-chaired the India–Germany High Defence Committee meeting with Mr Jens Plötner, State Secretary at the German Ministry of Defence, in New Delhi on 18 November 2025. The discussions covered a wide range of bilateral defence and security matters, with particular focus on priority areas for co-development and co-production of defence equipment.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening military-to-military cooperation, underscoring defence engagement as an important pillar of the Strategic Partnership between India and Germany. They also exchanged views on the regional security environment and explored opportunities to intensify bilateral exchanges, including institutionalised military exercises. Germany is set to participate in TARANG SHAKTI, the multinational air combat exercise, and MILAN, the multinational naval exercise, scheduled for 2026.

India emphasised its role as a “First Responder” and “Net Security Provider” in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The Defence Secretary outlined that India’s regional approach is anchored in its vision of MAHASAGAR—Mutual and Holistic Advancement of Security and Growth Across Regions. India continues to work closely with IOR nations in areas such as development partnerships, defence and maritime security, capacity building and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief. The German delegation acknowledged India’s leadership in the region.

The two sides highlighted the importance of deepening defence collaboration and linking the defence industries of both nations, especially in the field of niche and advanced technologies.

India and Germany share a long-standing relationship grounded in common values and shared strategic objectives. As both nations mark 25 years of their Strategic Partnership, the growing emphasis on defence and security cooperation reflects the deep mutual trust built over decades.
