India, Indonesia Strengthen Defence Cooperation at Ministers’ Meet
Both nations reiterated their shared commitment to a free, open and stable Indo-Pacific guided by international law, highlighting complementarities between the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific and India’s Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative. They agreed to enhance cooperation through multilateral frameworks and deepen collaboration in maritime domain awareness, cyber resilience and operational readiness.
The meeting also advanced defence industry cooperation, with Indonesia welcoming India’s proposal for a Joint Defence Industry Cooperation Committee to enable technology transfer, joint R&D, certification harmonisation and supply-chain linkages. Both sides took stock of growing military engagements, including exercises such as Super Garuda Shield, Garuda Shakti, Samudra Shakti and MILAN, alongside officer exchanges and joint training.
Discussions further covered submarine capability, defence medicine and humanitarian assistance. India also announced the gifting of horses and a ceremonial carriage to Indonesia, signalling continued goodwill.
