Integrated Maritime Security Network to Get Major Upgrade

The Indian Navy has entered into a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bengaluru, to implement the National Maritime Domain Awareness (NMDA) Project. This initiative represents a critical step in enhancing India’s maritime and coastal security.

The agreement was formalised in the presence of Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff, and Shri Manoj Jain, Chairman and Managing Director of BEL.

The NMDA Project aims to adopt an integrated framework for data collection, analysis, and real-time information sharing among diverse maritime stakeholders across the nation.

Key highlights of the project include:

1.   Upgrading the existing National Command, Control, Communication and Intelligence (NC3I) Network to a fully enhanced NMDA Network

2.  Incorporation of AI-enabled software systems for advanced maritime surveillance

3. Transformation of the Information Management and Analysis Centre (IMAC) in Gurugram into a Multi-Agency NMDA Centre, hosting representatives from key national security and maritime agencies

This comprehensive upgrade will be carried out on a turnkey basis and administered entirely by the Indian Navy, marking a significant leap towards seamless inter-agency coordination and national security readiness.

The NMDA project underscores India’s strategic emphasis on maritime vigilance and modernisation through indigenously developed, cutting-edge technology.
