Indian Navy Orders Three 200T Barges from MSME Shipyard

The Indian Navy has concluded a contract for the construction and delivery of three 200-tonne Bottom Opening Non-Propelled Barges with M/s Suryadipta Projects Private Limited, Thane, an MSME shipyard. The agreement was signed on 16 January 2026.
The barges will be built in India under the Classification Rules of the Indian Register of Shipping, reinforcing the Government of India’s Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.
Through this contract, the Indian Navy has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening MSME shipyards and supporting the domestic shipbuilding ecosystem. The initiative aligns with the objectives of Maritime India Vision 2030, aimed at enhancing self-reliance and long-term capacity building in the maritime sector.
