Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has formed a strategic partnership with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to support the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme of the Indian Air Force. The consortium will respond to the Expression of Interest issued by the Government of India’s Aeronautical Development Agency in the coming weeks.
The collaboration will draw on L&T’s expertise in developing strategic defence and aerospace platforms and BEL’s strength in defence electronics and systems. Together, the companies aim to contribute to India’s indigenously developed fifth-generation fighter aircraft.
The agreement marks a significant milestone in advancing India’s defence capabilities under the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision. By combining resources and capabilities, L&T and BEL plan to deliver a cutting-edge, high-quality solution that strengthens national security and positions India as a leader in advanced defence technologies.
Both companies have previously played pivotal roles in India’s Light Combat Aircraft programme, with L&T supplying major aero-structure modules and BEL developing mission-critical avionics and electronic systems. Building on this track record, the consortium seeks to provide timely, world-class defence and aerospace platforms for the Indian Air Force.
S. N. Subrahmanyan, Chairman and Managing Director of L&T, said: “The collaboration with BEL marks a significant leap in our commitment to modernising India’s defence capabilities. Our combined expertise will be crucial in bolstering national security and advancing self-reliance in defence technologies.”
Manoj Jain, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Electronics Limited, added: “The AMCA project reflects India’s growing defence technology capabilities. Partnering with L&T brings together complementary strengths to deliver a world-class solution that will serve the Indian Air Force for decades.”
