The Indian Navy demonstrated its operational capability and maritime readiness through a major ‘Operational Demonstration’ held recently at Shangumugham beach in Thiruvananthapuram. The event highlighted the Navy’s combat proficiency, technological advancements, and growing self-reliance. The Hon’ble President attended as Chief Guest and was received by Adm Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff. A ceremonial Guard of Honour comprising 150 personnel marked the arrival. Senior dignitaries, including the Governor and Chief Minister of Kerala, witnessed the display alongside officials, military leaders, and local residents.

The demonstration featured coordinated manoeuvres by frontline warships and submarines, exemplifying the Navy’s ability to deliver precision across the maritime domain. More than twenty platforms, including the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, participated alongside naval aviation assets and Marine Commandos (MARCOS), offering a vivid showcase of operational excellence.

The programme also included a Hornpipe dance by the Sea Cadet Corps, cultural performances and a Continuity Drill executed by naval personnel. The event concluded with a Beating Retreat by the Indian Naval band and a sunset ceremony with ship illumination.

Navy Day commemorates the Indian Navy’s decisive role in Operation Trident during the 1971 war. Over the years, the force has evolved into a modern, resilient and self-reliant maritime power. Guided by the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the Navy continues its transition from a Buyer’s Navy to a Builder’s Navy, strengthening indigenous capability.

Op Demo 2025 underscored the Navy’s contribution as a dependable maritime force that enhances regional security, builds enduring partnerships, and supports a free and rules-based maritime order aligned with India’s MAHASAGAR vision.
