The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), under the leadership of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has approved capital acquisition proposals totalling approximately Rs 71.5 billion (Rs 7,150 crore). These procurements are intended to boost the operational preparedness of the Indian Armed Forces and promote domestic defence manufacturing.

All approved proposals fall under the 'Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured)' category, reinforcing the government's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Among the major acquisitions, the Indian Navy will procure Active Towed Array Sonar (ATAS) systems designed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for deployment on modern warships to enhance anti-submarine warfare capabilities.

In a major push for indigenous missile systems, the DAC cleared the procurement of Heavy Weight Torpedoes for the Indian Navy, to be manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL). Additionally, procurement of BrahMos missiles for the Indian Navy has also been approved, which will significantly augment naval combat power.

These decisions underline the government's continued commitment to strengthening national defence through indigenous technological solutions and self-reliant production capabilities.
