The Ministry of Defence has notified the Rules under the Inter-Services Organisations (Command, Control and Discipline) Act 2023, which took effect from 27th May 2025. The move enhances command efficiency and joint functioning across the Armed Forces.

The Act was passed in the 2023 Monsoon Session and received Presidential assent on 15th August 2023. It officially came into force on 10th May 2024, following Gazette Notification issued on 8th May 2024. Specific Inter-Services Organisations (ISOs) were later notified on 27th December 2024.

The Act authorises Commanders-in-Chief and Officers-in-Command of ISOs to exercise command and disciplinary control over service personnel under them. This authority is applied while maintaining each service’s unique conditions.

The subordinate Rules, notified under Section 11 of the Act, offer an implementation framework. They provide clarity on administrative control, discipline, and operational synergy within ISOs.

With the notification now complete, the Act is fully operational. It empowers ISO leadership, supports faster resolution of disciplinary matters, and prevents procedural duplication—thus reinforcing effective tri-service integration.
