SAIL Supplies Steel For INS Ajay And INS Nistar

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), India’s largest steelmaking Maharatna PSU, continues to play a key role in defence indigenisation by supplying critical-grade steel for two major naval vessels—INS Ajay and INS Nistar—launched in July 2025.
For INS Ajay, the final vessel in the indigenously built Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) series by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE), SAIL provided the entire quantity of DMR-grade steel plates. This ensures superior structural integrity and stealth performance.
SAIL also supplied the full requirement of special-grade steel plates for INS Nistar, India’s first indigenously designed and constructed Diving Support Vessel (DSV), commissioned by Hindustan Shipyard Ltd. (HSL). The vessel is set to support submarine rescue missions, deep-sea diving, and long-range patrolling.
SAIL’s consistent support to India’s naval projects reinforces its contribution to national defence and its commitment to the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision. With every tonne of steel, SAIL strengthens the nation’s maritime preparedness and resilience.
