Samsung Heavy Industries, a subsidiary of South Korea’s Samsung Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI) to jointly pursue shipbuilding and maritime projects in India and overseas.

SDHI, India’s largest shipbuilding and heavy fabrication company, and Samsung Heavy, one of South Korea’s leading shipbuilders, will collaborate on commercial vessels including tankers, gas carriers, container ships, and specialised vessels. The partnership will also focus on next-generation vessel designs, green technologies, and digital shipbuilding methods.

The collaboration will emphasise value engineering in production design and localisation of material sourcing to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency. Both companies said the partnership reflects a strong commitment to innovation, sustainability, and strengthening India’s maritime capabilities.
