The Warship Design Bureau hosted a one-day seminar titled ‘Nation Building Through Shipbuilding’ on 23 July 2025 at the Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantt. The event brought together senior officials, industry leaders, and maritime experts to explore India’s shipbuilding capacity as a pillar of national development.

Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, delivered the keynote address virtually, highlighting the Indian Navy’s Vision 2047 to become an Aatmanirbhar force. He stressed the Navy’s focus on invention, innovation, indigenisation, and the integration of cutting-edge technologies. He also marked the delivery of the 100th indigenously designed ship as a symbolic step towards maritime self-reliance and technological progress.

The seminar featured participation from the Ministry of Defence (MoD), Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), shipyards, classification societies, and academic institutions.

Deliberations focused on policy frameworks, emerging technologies, skill development, ease of doing business, and the global competitiveness of India’s shipbuilding sector. The Warship Design Bureau's legacy—over 60 years of design expertise, 20 warship classes, and 100 delivered vessels—was also showcased.

Four technical sessions addressed the challenges and opportunities in aligning India’s maritime industry with global standards. Discussions emphasised strengthening policy support, upskilling talent, and modernising design approaches to position India as a leading shipbuilding nation.
