Agartala Smart City Secures Rs 1.16 Billion for Solid Waste Management

Agartala Smart City Limited has signed a Rs 1.16 billion agreement under the City Investments to Innovate, Integrate & Sustain 2.0 (CITIIS 2.0) initiative to enhance Integrated Solid Waste Management in the city. The agreement was formalised on March 3 in Jaipur during the Asia-Pacific RRR Regional Conference, attended by Union Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs Manohar Lal and senior officials from MoHUA, SBM(U), and NIUA.

Representing Tripura, Dr Shailesh, Municipal Commissioner of Agartala Municipal Corporation and CEO of Agartala Smart City Limited, along with other key officials, were present at the event.

Agartala Smart City Limited called this a major milestone for Tripura’s urban sector. After competing with cities across India through a rigorous selection process involving proposal submissions and interviews by an expert panel from the European Union and India, Agartala secured its place among 18 cities selected under CITIIS 2.0. The Rs 1.16 billion project will be implemented over the next two years to help transform Agartala into one of India’s cleanest cities.

Additionally, a tripartite agreement was signed between the Urban Development Directorate, NIUA, and MoHUA, securing a Rs 50 million grant for climate-resilient planning and the establishment of an Urban Climate Observatory.
