In a major boost to Indo-Japanese industrial collaboration, Japan’s Ambassador to India, Mr Keiichi Ono, led a high-level business delegation to Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR), India’s flagship greenfield smart industrial city under the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC).

The two-day engagement began with a conference in Ahmedabad on 9 July 2025, followed by a site visit to Dholera SIR on 10 July, where the delegation reviewed planned infrastructure, utility assets, and social development initiatives.

A key highlight was the briefing on the Tata Electronics semiconductor fabrication facility, being built in collaboration with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) of Taiwan. This project forms part of Rs 1.54 trillion worth of semiconductor investments currently progressing in Gujarat under the Semicon India Programme.

The delegation toured essential infrastructure including the Water Treatment Plant, Power Substation, Canal Front Development, and the ABCD Building, which houses the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC). They also reviewed plans for hospitals, schools, housing, and hospitality spaces—making Dholera a fully liveable smart city.

Dholera’s connectivity via the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway and upcoming Greenfield International Airport, combined with plug-and-play industrial zones and real-time governance, positions it as a key catalyst in India’s Vision 2047.

During the conference, senior representatives from JBIC, JETRO, and the Government of Gujarat highlighted Japan’s continued role in India's economic transformation. NICDC CEO Rajat Kumar Saini reaffirmed that the DMIC draws strategic inspiration from Japan’s Tokyo–Osaka corridor.

The visit underscores Dholera’s emergence as a global hub for advanced manufacturing and deepens the strategic industrial ties between India and Japan.
