Jharkhand Forms Teams to Modernise Urban Infrastructure

The Jharkhand Urban Development Department has constituted multiple expert teams to plan, assess, and modernise urban infrastructure across the state’s cities and towns, an official said on Thursday.

The initiative aligns with Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s vision to position Jharkhand among India’s leading states in the field of advanced and sustainable urban development. The teams have been tasked with identifying existing infrastructure gaps and proposing new projects to promote stable and long-term growth.

According to Sunil Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Urban Development and Housing and Road Construction Department, a total of eight teams comprising expert engineers from the Road Construction Department, Urban Development Department, and the Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company (JUIDCO) have been formed. An official order to this effect has already been issued.

“These teams will visit various towns and cities across the state to assess existing urban infrastructure — including roads — and identify areas requiring improvement. They will then prepare detailed proposals to ensure sustainable and stable urban development,” Kumar stated in an official communication.

The expert teams will conduct on-site inspections of municipal bodies to formulate comprehensive infrastructure plans. Their responsibilities include identifying the scope for new roads, flyovers, underbridges, elevated roads, and road strengthening projects. They will also study traffic intersections and roundabouts to develop strategies for smoother traffic flow.

In addition, the teams will prepare proposals for footpaths, pathways, and roadside greenery, aimed at improving the visual appeal of urban areas and enhancing environmental sustainability.

The initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to systematic and environment-friendly urban growth, ensuring that Jharkhand’s cities evolve with better infrastructure, efficient mobility, and improved quality of life for residents.
