Rajkot is rapidly evolving into a smart, safe, and sustainable city under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the proactive efforts of the Gujarat government. Combining modern infrastructure, technology-driven systems, and citizen-focused projects, the city is enhancing both the quality of life and urban resilience for its residents.

At the heart of Rajkot’s transformation is the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), which monitors live CCTV feeds from across the city 24 hours a day. The advanced surveillance system, equipped with 1,000 cameras installed at key locations including public areas, traffic junctions, and municipal offices, has helped reduce crime rates and strengthen public safety, said Sameer Dhaduk, Director of the ICCC.

Rajkot is also leading in sustainable water management through its water treatment plants, which focus on treating polluted water, storing it for future use, and maximising reuse. “We strive to treat all contaminated water, transfer the purified water to storage tanks, and ensure its maximum reuse. This is a step forward in realising Prime Minister Modi’s vision,” explained Ravi, a laboratory chemist at one of the city’s treatment facilities.

The Lighthouse Project, part of the government’s welfare initiatives, is another example of Rajkot’s inclusive development. Families have been provided free modern housing equipped with essential amenities. Each home includes a furnished kitchen with a gas connection, vehicle parking, and access to community facilities such as an Anganwadi school, health centre, and water filtration plant. “These homes have given us dignity and security,” said Jay Soni, a project beneficiary.

Tourism has also been integrated into the city’s smart development plan. The Atal Sarovar has become a major attraction, offering scenic beauty alongside recreational and environmental benefits. “This place in Rajkot is truly peaceful and filled with happiness,” said tourist Arti Arya.
