With the launch of India’s largest Greenfield Domestic Cargo Terminal (DCT), Kempegowda International Airport (BLR Airport) is reshaping India’s cargo logistics. In collaboration with Shell Mobility India, BLR Cargo has introduced a cutting-edge Airport Truck Management Facility (ATMF) to streamline truck operations, reduce congestion, and improve efficiency across the airport cargo ecosystem.
Handling nearly 1,600 trucks daily, the ATMF provides over 250 dedicated parking bays and offers a digital-first, paperless entry and exit system. This innovation has slashed truck turnaround times from four hours to just one hour, with 78% of trucks entering the terminal within 20 minutes of arrival.
Key features:
• Automated check-ins and digital approvals for faster truck clearance
• Handheld devices that expedite processing at entry points
• 24/7 CCTV surveillance for enhanced security
• App-based mechanisms for real-time scheduling and movement tracking
• Driver amenities such as clean dormitories, washrooms, food outlets, and mobile charging stations
Satyaki Raghunath, COO, Bangalore International Airport Limited, said the ATMF addresses the rising cargo movement while also improving truck driver welfare. “This facility ensures cargo movement is faster, more efficient, and better organised, significantly reducing wait times and congestion,” he noted.
Sanjay Varkey, Director of Shell Mobility India, emphasised the blend of logistics and care: “By integrating technology with essential driver services, we are redefining logistics efficiency while supporting the people at its core.”
