CONCOR Launches India’s First Bulk Cement Rail Tanks

The Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR) has launched a groundbreaking initiative by introducing specialised tank containers for transporting bulk cement in loose form—marking the first such development in India.

The inaugural movement commenced from My Home Cement Siding in Mellacheruvu, Andhra Pradesh, to CONCOR’s Inland Container Depot at Whitefield, Bengaluru. This innovation signifies a strategic shift from conventional bagged cement transport to a more efficient and sustainable logistics method.

The use of these tank containers via the rail network aligns with the Government of India’s thrust on green and multimodal logistics. The approach aims to reduce handling losses, improve safety, and lower the environmental impact of cement transportation.

CONCOR’s initiative showcases its commitment to modernising infrastructure and delivering cost-effective, eco-conscious logistics solutions for core sectors. A Steering Committee will oversee implementation and consider expansion into other industrial corridors nationwide.
