Jupiter Wagons Wins Rs 2.42 Billion GATX Wagon Order

Jupiter Wagons Limited (JWL), a leading manufacturer of advanced mobility solutions for rail, road, and marine transport, has secured a Rs 2.4241 billion contract from GATX India Private Limited, the country’s largest private railcar lessor. The order involves the production and delivery of 583 high-performance wagons designed for diverse freight operations.

The contract covers four specialised wagon types:

  • BLSS (Container Carrier Wagon): Built for ISO container movement, with high axle load capacity and an enhanced payload-to-tare ratio for improved efficiency in intermodal transport, reducing turnaround times and boosting port–inland connectivity.
  • ACT2 (Bi-Level SUV Carrier Wagon): Designed to carry up to 10 SUVs per wagon, offering minimal handling, enhanced vehicle protection, and quicker loading/unloading cycles to meet growing automotive logistics demand.
  • BOXNHL (High-Capacity Open Wagon): Optimised for bulk commodities like coal and iron ore, with payloads over 70 tonnes, tippler-unloading capability, upgraded braking, and high-speed suitability for heavy-haul corridors.
  • BVCM (Specialised Freight Wagon): Adaptable to niche cargo requirements, providing tailored solutions for specialised industries with versatile operational deployment.
These wagons will enhance GATX’s cargo handling capacity and long-distance logistics efficiency. Managing Director Vivek Lohia said, “This significant order reinforces our position in the specialised freight segment and supports our strategy of diversifying our customer base while delivering innovative, high-quality solutions.”

JWL will execute the project from its manufacturing facilities across India, ensuring timely delivery and strict quality compliance. The company’s offerings include freight wagons, locomotives, passenger coach accessories, braking systems, commercial vehicles, ISO marine containers, and advanced components such as couplers, bogies, wheels, axles, and lithium-ion battery systems. With operations in Kolkata, Jamshedpur, Indore, Jabalpur, Aurangabad, and Bangalore, and global partnerships, JWL serves key clients in the railways, defence, automotive, energy, and infrastructure sectors.
