New Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal Opens in Odisha
Located in Jajpur district, Odisha, the terminal marks another milestone under the PM Gati Shakti – National Master Plan, aimed at creating integrated and seamless multimodal connectivity across India.
According to the Detailed Project Report (DPR), the total project cost stands at Rs 368.5 million. The terminal, equipped with four handling lines, is designed for exclusive use and will primarily manage cement as the outward commodity, while clinker, slag, and gypsum will be handled as inward commodities.
Projections indicate that the facility will handle approximately 86 rakes per month — including 36 outward and 50 inward rakes — significantly contributing to the transportation of raw materials and finished products for the cement and allied industries in the region.
The commissioning of the new GCT is expected to enhance freight handling efficiency, reduce logistics costs, and strengthen the regional industrial supply chain, bringing substantial benefits to both the Railways and the local economy.
The Jakhapura terminal adds to the growing network of Gati Shakti infrastructure, reinforcing the government’s vision to streamline cargo movement and boost India’s industrial competitiveness and logistics efficiency.
