The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has allocated Rs 50 million (mn) in its budget estimate for the financial year 2026-27 to upgrade water supply and sewerage infrastructure in villages recently merged under the corporation. The funds are intended to improve services and living conditions in communities including Butrela, Badheri, Burail, Attawa, Hallomajra, Dadumajra, Maloya, Palsora and Kajheri. The plan also covers additional localities such as Dhanas, Sarangpur, Khuda Alisher, Khuda Lohara and Khudda Jassu.

The Mayor, Saurabh Joshi, emphasised the need for improved tertiary treated water networks and said a provision of Rs 10 mn has been allocated for laying remaining pipelines and for ongoing and proposed works in the next financial year. The allocation is intended to ensure that tertiary treated water can be distributed to sectors lacking a connected network and to reduce pressure on existing freshwater supplies.

Besides this, the Municipal Corporation has earmarked Rs 24 mn to provide basic amenities for economically weaker sections. Rehabilitation colonies across the city such as Indira Colony, Mauli Jagran Colony, Bapu Dham Colony Sector 26, Kajheri Colony Sector 52, Palsora Colony Sector 56, Maloya Colony and Dadu Majra Colony will be prioritised for upgrades to water supply, sewerage and storm water drainage lines. Authorities noted that population increases from additional floors have strained existing services.

The funds are expected to strengthen distribution and drainage systems in various sectors and colonies and to improve the quality of life for residents by reducing service overloads. Project execution is planned during the 2026-27 financial year with prioritisation of areas lacking connections and of rehabilitation colonies with overburdened infrastructure. The Municipal Corporation will coordinate works with the administration to ensure upgrades are synchronised and to monitor progress.
