Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, dissatisfied with the slow progress of waste removal from the city’s three landfill sites, has directed civic authorities to implement 24x7 waste processing operations at these sites.
In a high-level meeting at the secretariat, the CM instructed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to run a special three-month-long drive aimed at improving cleanliness across the national capital. She also ordered MCD to develop a detailed plan for the proper utilisation of the three landfill sites, once the waste is fully cleared.
Additionally, Gupta emphasised the swift completion of two new waste-to-energy plants in Narela and Ghazipur, while also calling for the expansion of existing plants in Okhla and Tehkhand. Noting concerns over the slow pace at the Ghazipur landfill, the CM instructed the MCD to expedite the process by deploying additional machinery at all three sites.
The directive aims to enhance waste management efficiency in the city, with a focus on reducing the burden on the landfills while ensuring sustainable waste processing solutions.
